This is Muse as Lost Mother, goddess of mourning and melancholy. She’s also got to be the muse of show-biz; big time!
‘The Songstress’ wears a tragic mask. Her sorrowful chanting leads some sources to say she was mother of the sirens; half woman, half bird (the wrong halves) who lured sailors to their deaths by singing.
My sadder stories include ‘Stained’, ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’, and ‘Eat Your Heart Out, Miss Havisham’.
Or take Melpomene’s lesson on the shadow in ‘Only As Good As The Bad Guy’.
